You’ve Grown Up. Your Dessert Should, Too.
There’s no better way to top off a good meal than with a dollop of dessert!
Soul Food II will be served à la mode: we’ll not only learn to bake and decorate delectable pastries ─ we’ll top it off by donating half of what we make to those in need!
Led by a boutique bakery owner, participants will prepare a batch of ultimate sugar cookies to take home with them, and then learn the fine embellishing skills needed to decorate some of your favourite, classic confections, such as cakes and cake pops.
But that’s only half the recipe: half of the baked goods you decorate at Soul Food II will be used in The House’s follow-up event, Everyone Deserves Dessert (February 1st), where volunteers will partner with Out of the Cold to serve dessert to Toronto’s homeless community.
Through the act of baking, we’ll come to understand the difference presentation can make in lifting others’ spirits and that sometimes an added dash of scrumptious sweetness and kindness satisfies the most basic need of nourishing the soul.
