A Day When Everyone Gains by Giving
The House’s “Lend-A-Hand” series is back with another opportunity to reach out to your community in a relevant and meaningful way.
One of the biggest celebrations of miracles and spiritual growth, Purim is a day of sharing and spreading joy. And the greatest thing about happiness? It can inspire people to step out of their comfort zone and achieve more than they thought possible!
Pay-It-Forward Purim is a day where everyone can gain by giving. First, volunteers will perform charity by assembling and hand-delivering shaloach manot (gift baskets) filled with unique items for the homeless, such as calling cards, food, socks, and delicacies. Next, recipients on the street will be given an extra basket to “pay forward” to a needy friend.
Pay-It-Forward proves that the best form of charity is to “empower” others: Past recipients of the gift baskets appreciated the present, took only what they needed, and graciously gave one – or both! – baskets to someone else they knew.
